Each letter’s elements were carefully considered. Money and checks represented royalties, while keys symbolized ownership, referencing “I Got the Keys.” The chain symbolized having made it, helping tie all the letters together through a recurring visual theme.

To illustrate the complicated and often elusive process of artists signing with record labels, we created an acrostic to accompany an article on record deals. Each letter, spelling out “record deal,” highlighted an aspect artists should consider, with each letter visually illustrating that consideration.
